A 1960s bridge house perched between a neighbourhood park and a bustling intersection in Amsterdam North. In summer, the neighbouring Noorderpark is a popular leafy oasis for locals. Explore the hottest new spots in Amsterdam Noord within walking distance, or take the metro from the station across the street to get to Amsterdam Central Station in only 2 minutes. The acclaimed EYE film museum is accessible by bus (15 minutes). Or by bike, of course: this bridge house is a perfect overnight stop for cyclists on the LF7 cycle route.
Many elements of the eye-catching interior (the colourful flower wallpaper, the exotic green table lamp, the quirky picture frame and the white seating) are designed by Dutch design label Studio Job, creating what the New York Times would appreciatively call “high-end kitsch”.
From 1969 to 2017 the Meeuwenpleinbrug bridge house accommodated the city’s bridge keepers. In 2017 the bridge house started a new chapter as one of 28 suites for SWEETS hotel.

The Meeuwenpleinbrug (bridge) over the North Holland Canal was built in 1969, designed by Dirk Sterenberg, and is situated near the northern entrance of the IJ Tunnel. The Meeuwenpleinbrug bridge house can be regarded as a simpler variant of the Hortusbrug bridge house in the old part of the city. On the south side the former bridge control office was connected to the road via a staircase.
