Minimalistic hotel room with a Japanese-inspired interior, boasting a view directly over a tiny lake in Amsterdam North. Your neighbours are the local swans! Picturesque Dutch character houses line the street and a postcard-perfect 18th-century windmill is within walking distance. The bridge house’s terrace and the leafy surroundings are perfect for a picnic in summer. In winter, Buiksloterdraaibrug is a romantic and cosy hide-out.
Just like bridge house 102. Meeuwenpleinbrug and 101. Gerben Wagenaarbrug, this bridge house is an ideal stop-over for cyclists on the LF7 cycle route. Amsterdam Central Station is accessible by a short bicycle (14 minutes) and includes a scenic ferry ride.
From 1984 to 2017 the Buiksloterdraaibrug bridge house accommodated the city’s bridge keepers. In 2017 the bridge house started a new chapter as one of 28 suites for SWEETS hotel.
Architect 1984: Ingenieursbureau Amsterdam (IBA)
Architect 2017: Space&Matter
Architectural Style: Structuralism
Location: Buiksloterdijk
Waterway: North Holland Canal
Bridge Type: Swing Bridge
The bridge house at Buiksloterdraaibrug (bridge) over the North Holland Canal was designed by Rijkswaterstaat, similar to the Duivendrechtsebrug bridge house. In contrast, the Buiksloterdraaibrug bridge house has a more rustic character because of its location and the brick elevations. The large windows on all sides provided the bridge keeper with a clear view over the canal. An external concrete staircase along the south elevation previously gave access to the bridge’s basement.
